Are you looking to gain substantially more traffic with out pumping your PPC campaigns full of money? If you are at all like me you certainly do, I mean everyone loves free traffic! With these little tips you can help drive more traffic to your pages by leveraging Google Image Search to drive traffic to your site.
First and foremost, your image tag should contain the following:
- The src attribute: The URL of the image you want to display.
- The width attribute: The width of the image.
- The height attribute: The height of the image.
- The alt attribute: Short Description of the image.
Now that you have all of the attributes in place lets discuss why the width, height, and alt attributes are important.
The width and height attributes are important primarily for the “specific searches” and by specific I mean whether or not they are looking for small, medium or large images. By specifying the width and height you are helping Google determine which category your image is going to be placed into.
The Alt tag as stated before is used for a short description of the image, this is where you will place the description of that image. Be sure to use your keywords in the copy.
Now that we have the basic architecture covered, lets get into more specifics. Having the basic attributes in place you are well on your way to having your images indexed and searchable. The next step is to make a descriptive file name for your images. Now the best practice to doing this is by following this format: ‘your-image-name-here.jpg’
Now replace the ‘your-image-here‘, with the keyword rich description of your image like this: ‘big-blue-widgets.jpg’
There are also on the page factors that influence the images position and indexability for keywords. The primary on the page factor being considered is the copy surrounding the image. So make sure your put a descriptive paragraph of the image very close to the image, somewhere within a 200px radius of the image.
