In the recent years there has been an increasing buzz around search engines and ranking well with them. Having one of your web pages rank in the top 10 of the SERP is a win/win situation. Having a good web site should be a primary goal for any business, whether that business is your local Mom / Pop store or a corporation with 400+ employees.

It has become increasingly clear that people are using the search engines to find products or services local to them. I mean why deal with a no name company from Boise, Idaho when you can get in the car and purchase it from a brick and mortar store you trust?

With the creation of Yahoo! Local and Google Local the user can now search for companies and products that are in their area. Not only can they search for them, they can even see reviews on the businesses they want to do business with. Having users review your site and services is a great way to help convince other people they should use your service too.

Where does your site or company stand on one of these sites? Have you been listed? Or even better have you been reviewed? Keeping on top of these listings to make sure they are as accurate as possible should be a key component in your SEO/SEM efforts. If it is not perhaps it is time you rethink some of your SEO/SEM efforts.

To many SEO/M professionals going “local” is the future of search. Make sure your company is not left behind in the dust!

  1. Hey Brandon -
Stumbled upon this post while reading through SEO articles on technorati today and thought you might be interested in a free advertising service that I offer to bloggers called http://adgridwork.com. The site is completely free and only requires that you add a small javascript widget to your page in order to automate the link exchange, but we have about 200 sites now that are focusing on both Marketing and SEO. Anyways, figured you might be interested and if so please check us out. Keep up the good content :)
